Geena Davis, who recently appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, will star in Fox’s pilot based on The Exorcist.
Davis has been cast to play Angela Rance, who tries to stay positive while her family struggles and she has nightmares about a demon, notes The Hollywood Reporter. It will be her first regular television role since she won a Golden Globe for ABC’s short-lived 2005-06 series Commander In Chief.
The actress is also an Oscar-winner for The Accidental Tourist (1988) and starred in 12 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy last season.
The Exorcist series is considered a modern re-telling of William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel, which centers on two men trying to save a young girl from demonic possession. It was previously adapted into an Oscar-winning film in 1973.
Rupert Wyatt was hired to direct the pilot, which will star Alfonso Herrera (Sense8) and Ben Daniels (Flesh and Bone). It was written by Jeremy Slater and is a 20th Century Fox TV/Morgan Creek production.
