Kim Campbell, the wife of country music legend Glen Campbell, gave an update on the singer’s health on March 7. She said that he no longer has the ability to speak and is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
In an interview with Tampa Bay’s WTSB, Kim Campbell said that he is healthy and content, despite the disease.“He’s lost most of his ability to communicate verbally. He has severe aphasia, but he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses, and he enjoys food,” Kim said.
She later said that faith has helped her and her family make it through these tough times. “Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects the whole family,” she said.
Campbell announced in 2011 that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Although Kim and their two children served as his caregivers at home, she had to take him back to a full-time care facility in November, notes Taste Of Country.
During his career, Campbell, 79, racked up hits like “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Gentle on My Mind.” He was the subject of the Oscar-nominated documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. Kim has since co-founded the I’ll Be Me Alzheimer’s Fund.
