A judge in the U.K. ruled on Monday that Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s custody battle over their son Rocco will be decided in a New York court.

People noted that a judge said the case should proceed in the U.S. court system.

"For all the media coverage, comment and analysis, this is a case born out of circumstances that arise for countless separated parents the world over," the judge wrote in the ruling.

Madonna and Ritchie have been in the custody dispute ever since December when Rocco was touring with his mother, but took a trip to England to see his father and did not return.

As we previously reported, the singer learned earlier this month that the 15-year-old would remain in England with his father and continue attending his school there. Madonna and her ex have not yet been able to come to a custody agreement.

Rocco reportedly prefers Ritchie’s parenting style over his mother’s and does not want to leave his friends in the U.K.
