A man in London, Matthew P Doyle, who tweeted about an encounter he had with a Muslim woman who he asked about the Brussels attack, has reportedly been arrested on and charged with inciting racial hatred on social media.
He wrote that he had approached the woman to ask her about the Brussels attacks, insinuating she was involved, then went on to call her a racial slur.
"I confronted a Muslim woman in Croydon yesterday,” he tweeted then deleted. “I asked her to explain Brussels. She said 'nothing to do with me'. A mealy mouthed reply.”
However, it appears he was reported because a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed to Mashable that a man from Croydon was arrested for inciting racial hatred on social media.
