The all-male Ghostbusters spinoff is no longer in development at Sony.
In an interview with Forbes, Joe and Anthony Russo, who were previously attached to direct the film, said they will not work on a Ghostbusters movie after all.
"There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them," said Joe Russo. "He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that’s the only Ghostbusters world that’s being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Avengers: Infinity War it took us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project."
This news first broke in March 2015, not long after Paul Feig revealed his plans for the female-driven reboot. The male spinoff was expected to star Channing Tatum and to be written by Drew Pierce (Iron Man 3), as we previously reported. At the time, it was said that these two films were just the beginning for Ghostbusters, and all new TV shows, movies and toys would be on the way from Sony. As of last July, the plan was to have this second Ghostbusters open in summer 2017, one year after Feig's version, according to Slashfilm.
For now, though, the only Ghostbusters we'll be getting is Feig's, which stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It opens on July 15.
