Amazingly, Sony is really going to develop a crossover between 21 Jump Street and Men in Black. This might be one of the good (or completely terrible, depending on how it turns out) things to come out of the Sony hack.
Former Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair reportedly received an email from 21 Jump Street star Jonah Hill, in which he proposed a crossover between his hit franchise and the Will Smith franchise. The email was leaked during the 2014 Sony hack. Last year, it was reported that the studio is interested in bringing the idea to fruition after hiring writers to put a script together.
On March 4, Variety confirmed that the idea is still moving forward and Sony is in early talks with James Bobin to direct. Bobin is best known for helming Disney’s two most recent The Muppets movies and just finished Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Filming on the Jump Street/MiB movie could start as soon as June. While Hill and Channing Tatum will be back, Sony executives want to use the movie to freshen up the MiB series without Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
The first two Jump Street movies were hugely successful and even earned critical praise. The two films were directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who will be too busy to make 23 Jump Street because of their Star Wars commitment.
