Director Charlie McDowell, who drew interest for his unique indie film The One I Love, is getting an exceptional cast together for his second film. Rooney Mara, Jason Segel and Robert Redford will all star in The Discovery.

The film is set in a world two years after the afterlife is significantly proven, so millions of people have killed themselves in order to start over again. Redford will play the man who made the discovery, while Segel plays his son, notes Deadline. Mara has been cast as the woman who Segel’s character falls in love with.

The Discovery will finally start shooting this month in Rhode Island. It was written by McDowell and Justin Lader. Endgame Entertainment and Protagonist Pictures are financing and the producers are Endgame’s James D. Stern and Verisimilitude’s Alex Orlovsky.

McDowell made his feature filmmaking debut with The One I Love, which starred Elisabeth Moss and Mark Duplass. The film is an intriguing mix of science fiction and romance. You can stream it on Netflix.

Redford has shown an increasing willingness to make films with young filmmakers. He starred in J.C. Chandor’s All Is Lost in 2013 and appeared in Joe & Anthony Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. His next film is Disney’s Pete’s Dragon remake.

Segel was last seen in Sex Tape and The End of the Tour. Mara just earned an Oscar nomination for Carol.
