La La Land, a new musical that pairs Crazy, Stupid, Love co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone together again, will hit theaters in December. The film was previously given a summer release.
The new movie is director Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to three-time Oscar winner Whiplash, so it makes sense for Lionsgate to have high hopes for the film. The studio had originally planned to give the film a July release.
However, the film will not get a limited release until Dec. 2, notes Variety. It will then go wide on Dec. 16, putting the film right in the middle of the Oscar race. Unfortunately, it does mean that the film has to go up against Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Will Smith’s Collateral Beauty.
La La Land sounds like a film that pays tribute to the old Hollywood musicals, as it’s a love story set in Hollywood.
Gosling and Stone were seen together in Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Gosling was last seen in The Big Short and stars in The Nice Guys, which opens on May 20. Stone hasn’t been seen in a movie since Woody Allen’s Irrational Man and La La Land is her next film.
