The new films hitting theaters this week feature many recognizable characters. While family fights break out in a sequel to a popular 2002 comedy, legendary superheroes battle it out in a new DC Comics film.
It’s human against supernatural in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The two hour and thirty-one minute sci-fi adventure pits the two superheroes against each other. Not knowing who the mysterious Superman really is, Batman has his eye on the Man of Steel. As the two face-off on who is the real hero, an enemy has the opportunity to destroy humanity. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill star in the action film alongside Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The PG-13 film is available in conventional, 3D and IMAX theaters.
The Portokalos family is back together again and preparing for another set of nuptials in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. In the sequel to the hit 2002 film, Toula & Ian are parents to a teenage daughter, who herself is struggling with her overbearing family. Chaos ensues when the boisterous bunch finds out that their patriarch and matriarch are not considered legally married. The PG-13 comedy, starring John Corbett and Nia Vardalos, plays for one hour and thirty-four minutes.
Two college grads struggle with employment in Get a Job. Their family, friends and coworkers help them cope with the unexpected experiences that come their way. Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Alison Brie, Marcia Gay Harden, Ravi V. Patel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jorge Garcia star in the limited released comedy. The one hour and twenty-two minute film is rated R for sex, nudity, drugs and language.
The spotlight is on the life of legendary country singer Hank Williams in I Saw the Light. The singer-songwriter, who was both plagued and inspired by his health and personal issues, is known for writing some of the most beloved and covered songs in all of music. The two hour and three minute musical drama stars Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bradley Whitford. The biopic is playing in limited theaters, but expands to wide release on April 1. It’s rated R for language, sex and nudity.
Just as I Saw the Light highlighted the life of Hank Williams, next week’s Miles Ahead does the same for musician Miles Davis. Also debuting in theaters on April 1 is God’s Not Dead 2.
