Disney Channel star Zendaya just got a major career boost today. She has reportedly been cast in the Spider-Man reboot from Sony and Marvel Studios.
Zendaya has signed on to star as a character called Michelle, reports Deadline. The site notes that she probably won’t be the romantic lead, since that should be Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy and neither of those roles have been cast yet.
The new film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and will be the start of another Spider-Man franchise, but under the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland will make his debut as Peter Parker/Spidey in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.
Aside from Holland, the only other star attached to the movie is Marisa Tomei, who is set to play Aunt May.
Zendaya, 19, has been a mainstay at the Disney channel for a few years already. She starred in the 2010-2013 series Shake It Up! and currently plays the title character in K.C. Undercover, which started last year.
The Spider-Man reboot hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
