Promotion for the long-gestating Nina Simone biopic Nina finally started this week, giving fans a look at Zoe Saldana playing the legendary singer.

On March 1, Entertainment Weekly shared the first poster for the film, which co-stars David Oyelowo (Selma) as Clifton Henderson, who helps Simone mount a comeback. Today, a trailer was released by The Today Show.

Nina will be released in limited theaters and on VOD on April 22. It will also air on HBO later this year. The film was written and directed by Cynthia Mort (The Brave One).

The film has had a long life. There has been talk about a Simone biopic since 2005 and Nina was completed back in 2014. It was even screened at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Simone was also the subject of the Netflix documentary What Happened To Nina Simone?, which was nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
