Even when you think things are looking up, they go completely wrong. That seems to be the standing theme of Grey’s Anatomy.

Currently on season 12 and having over 260 episodes, Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air a lot longer than most television shows. While most fizzle out after a while, Grey’s is still hanging on, or at least it is for now. It's kept a pretty steady fan base over the past 12 seasons, the medical drama being a favorite of many; however, that might be changing soon.

Grey’s has always been, in Meredith’s words, "dark and twisty," but it is becoming increasingly depressing to watch.

From the original cast of nine people, only four are left. Derek and George both died and Cristina, Izzie, and Preston all left. Not to mention a handful of other characters that came later on, like Mark, Lexie, Adele, Teddy, Denny, and both of Meredith’s parents.

Why must things always go wrong on Grey’s? This may be a drama series, but can’t there be one happy relationship? Contrary to what Shonda Rhimes may think, some marriages do last! Out of over 40 relationships that have occurred over the 12 seasons, only three marriages are still left standing. Those couples are Bailey and Ben, who seem to be fine for now, but we have a feeling Rhimes will work her dark magic there eventually, Catharine Avery and Dr. Weber, who recently hit a major rough patch in episode 17, and Alex and Jo, who can’t decide if they should be engaged or not. All other marriages ended either because the characters died, got divorced, moved across the country, cheated, or went crazy.

Most importantly, after seeing fans' reactions on Twitter, it’s doubtful they will eveREr forgive Rhimes for killing Derek Shepard, aka McDreamy, Meredith’s soulmate.

Despite Grey’s Anatomy continually ripping fans’ hearts out, a large amount of viewers still look forward to watching the TV show every week. So cheers to you, Rhimes.
