On April 26, Universal released Krampus on home video. It’s a darkly funny story of a boy who accidentally wishes destruction upon his family at Christmas. The movie is sure to become a Christmas classic amongst horror fans and the Blu-ray contains several enthralling bonus features for those interested in the story’s background.

Main character Max’s family is certainly dysfunctional. His family life clashes with that of his aunt, who has come to stay for the holidays. The adults are not gracious and the kids torture each other until Max has had enough. He loses faith in the holiday and tears up his letter to Santa, scattering it in the wind. Little does he know, he’s invited an ancient spirit to punish his family for their lack of spirit.

The story is funny and deliciously sinister. It’s spooky and campy, something we’ve come to expect from director Michael Dougherty who also helmed the Halloween classic Trick ‘r Treat. Fans of that movie will be equally impressed with this offering. Evil creatures and silliness abound through both.

Real fans of Dougherty’s work will be interested in the bonus features on this Blu-ray, as well. There’s an alternate ending and gag reel, as well as several behind the scenes portrayals and commentary with the filmmakers. Everything you could possibly want to know about the making of Krampus is contained in these exclusives.

If you’re looking for terrifying, you’re not going to find it here. Instead, you’ll find humor and a campy eeriness, but that’s what makes it so much fun. This movie is an amusing holiday satire that is sure to bring joy to horror fans every Christmas season.
