Lit-Cube is a subscription box service that mails out monthly books and bookish goodies to its customers. The books vary from Young Adult to Adult and every box is a new theme. They include things like tee-shirts, socks, jewelry, bookmarks and mugs, amongst other items, for the literary obsessed.
I recently did a review of the April box, which was amazing. Did you know that they also occasionally do special themed boxes that you can buy separately from a subscription? I decided to check one out this month and I’m happy I did.
This month’s special box was Gilmore Girls-based. That television show was nerd heaven. The characters slugged coffee, read a lot of books, studied hard, listened to awesome music and had relationships we would kill for. I like to think I had a lot in common with Rory as a teen and strive to be more like Lorelai in my 30s. I’m currently re-watching the old episodes, waiting for the new series to start. Didn’t know there was going to be a reboot? Check out the announcement here.
Anyway, the box is filled with items that relate to the TV show and it was a lot of fun to open. As you can see at the top of this article, it was packed in a gorgeous Lit-Cube logo box and marked fragile. Everything inside was well-padded and arrived in excellent shape.
The first thing in the box was this geeked-out tee-shirt that references a quote from the show and also expresses how fans feel. T-shirts are always available up to a size 3XL, so they’ll fit just about every body. They’re men’s/unisex cut and are made of 100 percent cotton – nice and soft and best of all, machine washable. According to the card, the value of this tee is $19.99.
Next in the box is a set of hand towels from the Dragonfly Inn where Lorelai worked. The towels are sturdy feeling with high-quality stitching on the logo. Very cute and valued at $19.99.
The next two items in the box are based on Luke’s Diner. The Lit-Cube company released a sneak peek of the mug before shipping, so I knew it was coming. It’s a heavy diner-style mug that will get a lot of use in my house. It’s large enough for an extra-big cup of coffee. The mug is valued at $14.95.
Next to the mug is an art print of Luke’s No Cell Phones sign. It’s cute, but I’m not really sure what to do with it. It’s definitely not the rule here. The sign is valued at $6.95.
Between these items, you’ll see the collectible card that Lit-Cube always includes in their boxes. This one has In Omnia Paratus written on it, which was the secret slogan of the Life and Death Brigade.
The next two goodies in this package were more broadly themed. There’s a set of pin-back buttons with various Gilmore Girls references on them. I’ll be hooking “Life is short, talk fast” to my purse immediately. The pins look sturdy and are valued at $9.99.
The edible in this box was something I had never heard of before. They’re Go Cubes, which are coffee-infused gummies. There were three different flavors among the four cubes, but they weren’t separately labeled, so I kind of had to guess. They were yummy and helped eliminate the 2 p.m. sleepiness that I’m prone to hitting in the afternoon. The cubes are listed at $2.95.
The last two items in the package are Rory Gilmore-inspired. There’s a pro-con list notebook with the quote, “Do not mock my pro-con list” written at the bottom. Great for difficult decisions… or any decisions really. The pad is listed at $5.99.
Last is the book. Rory was a huge fan of Sylvia Plath, so this collection’s book is the hardcover version of Belzhar, by Meg Wolitzer. It’s about a girl who goes to a therapeutic boarding school and takes a class called Special Topics in English, which revolves around Sylvia Plath. It’s a Young Adult novel with a paranormal twist and it looks incredible. The book’s list price is $17.99.
Added together, this box has a value of over $98. They sold it for $44.95, so all-in-all, a good deal. The items are fun and mostly useful. I think the only thing that will get shoved in a drawer is the cell phone print, but others might love it.
Lit-Cube is an amazing service that always has creative themes. Whether you try them out as a subscription or just grab their next single box, they’re absolutely worth it. Sad you missed this box? There’s rumors of a Gilmore Girls 2.0 box in the future, so hold onto hope and keep checking the site!
