Muse Monthly is a subscription box service for people with discerning tastes in books and tea. Every month they send out a new literary fiction novel with a full-sized container of high quality tea. The books lean towards new publications and new writers from a variety of backgrounds, so it’s a good way to find fresh favorites. The teas come from small, local tea makers in the United States and Canada. Together, the novels and tea give you a cozy, stress-relieving experience.
Muse Monthly was kind enough to send me a box to explore and share with our readers. I’ll go over what was in the box and whether it’s worth your time and money and I’ll also give you a coupon towards your first box should you choose to sign up.
The box itself, seen at the top of this article, was white with a sleek side view of a female face with a relaxed hairstyle. It seems to be a reminder of the easy-going experience this service means to bring you. The inside of the box was lined with black tissue paper and the book was wrapped separately in the same paper. Everything got to me in brand new condition.
The first item in the box was the hardcover book. It’s Sudden Death, by Alvaro Enrigue. According to the jacket, it’s a story set in the 16th century that involves the clash of empires and ideas through a tennis match between radical Italian artist Caravaggio and Spanish poet Francisco de Quevedo, played with a ball made from the hair of the deceased Anne Boleyn. It’s described as both funny and mind-bending by critics.
The book sounds amazing. Something truly unique that will make me think. With the discount on Amazon, the value of the book is still over $18. The box itself is priced at just $21 plus shipping, so the book makes up a good part of that price.
Next in the box was a 2-ounce bag of Hangover Helper Tea by The Mountain Witch Tea Company. Not wanting to hurt myself in the name of science, I cannot speak as to how to handles hangovers. However, the company rep mentioned that it was a light tea perfect for spring and I’m inclined to agree. It’s a herbal brew with a blend of tastes ranging from orange, to chamomile and rose petals, to a spearmint aftertaste. And that’s not even half of the ingredients. It’s tasty on its own or with milk and honey.
The tea was packaged in resealable plastic inside of a paper bag that closes securely with a fold-over top and bendable strips. These should keep it fresh, so I’ll always have a flavorful cup of tea. I’ve already checked out the Mountain Witch website to scout out future buys because I like this tea so much.
According to The Mountain Witch, this bag of tea is worth $9, bringing the value of this box well above the asking price. I’d say it’s certainly worth the money and effort required to sign up.
To make it even more worth your while, Muse Monthly has given us a coupon code exclusively for our readers. Use the code CELEBRITYCAFE00 for 15 percent off your first box. If you’d rather pay in advance, there are 3-month and 6-month prepay plans, as well, but the 15 percent off doesn’t work there.
If you love tea and interesting fiction, this club is hard to beat. Brand new books and full-sized tins or boxes of tea are a wonderful way to spend evenings and weekends. Give relaxation a try with Muse Monthly.
