Reports surfaced Thursday that iconic entertainer Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park estate.  He was 57.

TMZ broke the news that the Carver County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a death at the singer’s  Minnesota home. The department later confirmed the investigation at the compound but did not release the name of the person who was found.

The media outlet, however, reported that the deceased was Prince. The star’s publicist also confirmed the news of his death to the Associated Press.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.

Prince was hospitalized last week with what was believed to be the flu. It is unclear at this time if that had anything to do with his passing.

Prince starred in the 1984 movie Purple Rain. He was also responsible for countless hits including “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “1999” and the song “Purple Rain.”
