Simple Loose Leaf is a subscription service that sends you four to six ¼ ounce bags of a variety of loose leaf tea flavors. This tea of the month club has a great sign up deal and their teas are full of flavor. Each bag makes a full pot or several mugs worth of tea.

If you’re a curious tea connoisseur, read on for my April unboxing review. Please pardon the torn tops on the bags of tea. I was so excited when they arrived that I immediately tore them open, forgetting that I needed to share my experience. Pictures were taken after tasting.

As you can see from the top of the article, the teas were packed in an attractive box. Bags of tea aren’t likely to break, but the company packed them in shredded cardboard anyway, to make sure they arrived unscathed.

Included with the teas were two reusable cloth bags for those who might not own a tea basket, ball or infuser. They’re large enough they can hold a sufficient amount for a pot of tea or add less to make a cup. However, I would definitely rinse them with boiling water first to make sure they’re clean. I didn’t actually try the bags because I have so many tea implements around the house, but they’re an interesting idea.

The first two teas in the box were Strawberry & Lemon and Tropical Sunshine. Both were fruity, Rooibos based teas and therefore caffeine-free.

The Strawberry & Lemon had a bright, juicy flavor. I was worried when I saw that it had hibiscus in it because I often find hibiscus teas to be too bitter, but it wasn’t overpowering. Instead, the strawberries made it somewhat sweet. I enjoyed this tea very much.

Tropical Sunshine was a spicier concoction with a touch of citrus. The ingredient list included cardamom, red peppercorn, lemongrass, cinnamon chips, orange peel and cranberries, amongst other things. It wasn’t spicy hot; more like spicy exotic. I’m a cinnamon fan, so this was a favorite.

The next two teas in the box were variations of black. There were Toasty Almond and Pu’er Black. Black teas are great for the mornings because they have a good amount of caffeine, some more than others.

The Toasty Almond black tea smelled heavenly when I opened it up. It was the first one I tried. It mentioned on the bag that it would be perfect served “in the English fashion, with a touch of milk for a tasty tea latte.” I tend to add cream to all of my teas, even herbal, but black definitely has the best flavor for it, so I was eager to try. It had a nutty flavor with a hint of vanilla that was absolutely delicious mixed with dairy.

Pu’er Black tea is a fermented tea with an earthy flavor. I’ve been expanding my tea horizons over the last year, but I had never tried Pu’er. It really did have the flavor of earth, but in a good way. The bag says it’s good for soothing upset stomachs and has a high caffeine content. I can’t speak for tummy troubles, but I tried this in the morning, in place of my second cup of coffee, and it did the job. I enjoyed this tea and am already seeking out bigger containers of it for daily use.

The final tea in this set was Chun Mee Green tea. It’s supposedly “hand-rolled into delicate arches that unfurl when brewed” and its name means “Precious Eyebrow,” which, granted, is weird. I like green tea, but it isn’t my favorite, so this bag got left for last. It was as good as green gets – very flavorful and good for you, too.

I’m a tea lover, so I jumped at the chance to get this box. If you love tea, too, you should do the same. It’s a great way to sample various flavors and every month they give you a 50 percent off coupon to use in their shop to buy bigger bags of the teas you try. They currently have a deal going where your first box is only $4.99 plus shipping. After that, it goes up to $13.99 per month. I think the quality and variety of the teas make this club worth it, not to mention the awesome coupon. If you’re a regular tea drinker, or just someone trying to cut back on coffee and be healthier, try this club. It’s a keeper.
