Relationships have a major impact on the characters in this week’s new releases.  Family, love and work are among the ties that bind people together.  Melissa McCarthy’s latest comedy plays on the relationship between a young woman and her ex-boss.

A high profile businesswoman is sent to jail for insider trading in The Boss.  Upon her release, she tries to start anew by building a brownie business with her former coworker and her child.  The one hour and twenty-nine minute comedy stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates.  It’s rated R for sex, language and drugs.

Following the unexpected death of his wife, a man struggles with the grieving process in Demolition.  When the candy he’s been craving gets stuck in the vending machine, he decides to write a complaint letter to the vending machine company.  One letter turns into a series of cathartic correspondences in which he begins to admit his personal conflicts.  The company’s customer service representative becomes connected to his story.  The two form a relationship as she tries to help him out.  Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the comedic drama alongside Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper.  The one hour and forty minute film is rated R for language, sex, drugs and disturbing behavior.

A man wakes up with no memory in Hardcore Henry.  When he opens his eyes, he is informed that the woman he sees is his wife but has no recollection of their relationship. Not long after, he finds himself in a game of cat and mouse with his wife missing and a bunch of strangers out to kill him.  The sci-fi adventure runs for one hour and thirty-six minutes.  The first person perspective action film is rated R for violence, language, sex, nudity and drugs.

An aspiring female rock star loses her job and moves in with her estranged, has-been crooner dad in One More Time.  The strained relationship between the two cause their personalities to clash while both trying to make it big in the music industry, one for the first time and the other for a comeback.  Christopher Walken, Amber Heard, Kelli Garner and Oliver Platt star in the unrated, comedic drama.  The one hour and thirty-eight minute film is playing in limited theaters.

Unlucky in love, a woman finally thinks she’s found “the one” in Mr. Right. All is not perfect in her new relationship though as she discovers that her new bad boy boyfriend is an assassin, who kills those who hire him.  The limited released action comedy stars Anna Kendrick, Sam Rockwell and Tim Roth.  The one hour and thirty-three minute film is rated R for violence and language.

A man is invited to a lavish dinner by his ex-wife and her new husband in The Invitation.  Skeptical after two years apart, he questions his ex’s agenda, convinced that she has dark, ulterior motives for extending an olive branch and opening the door to her house.  The unrated suspense thriller is running in limited theaters for one hour and forty minutes.

A ballet dancer on the verge of losing her scholarship and a British musician about to be deported turn to hip hop in High Strung.  A relationship blooms between the two as they seek help from a hip hop dance crew to get an edge in a competition that will have a major impact on their lives.  The PG musical drama is playing in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-seven minutes.

Another film about relationships enters theaters next week.  The Jungle Book focuses on the connection between a boy and a bear.

On April 15, the latest installment in the Barber Shop series also hits theaters.
