Disney has just revealed the new international trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass.

The trailer, released on Disney France's YouTube channel, focuses a bit more on the action than the previous footage, including a glimpse of Alice running to escape the Jabberwocky. We also get slightly more of the popular characters like the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter, the latter of whom is played again by Johnny Depp.

Though Disney has made plenty of unnecessary sequels like Cinderella 2 and The Little Mermaid 2, here we have a rare instance where there actually is more source material to work with; Through the Looking Glass is based on Lewis Carol's 1871 sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Taking place six months after the events of the original, the story sees Alice returning to Wonderland and attempting to save the Mad Hatter. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Alan Rickman in his final role.

Through the Looking Glass will likely be one of the highest-grossing films of the summer, assuming it's able to bring back in the same audience of the original. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland made over $1 billion worldwide and was the second-highest grossing film of 2010 behind Toy Story 3, according to Box Office Mojo.

Tim Burton did not return to direct this sequel, though. Instead, Alice Through the Looking Glass is directed by James Bobin (The Muppets). Writing the screenplay is Disney favorite Linda Woolverton, known for writing Alice in Wonderland (2010) and for working on Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Mulan.

Alice Through the Looking Glass opens on May 27.
