Taste Trunk is a service that sends you monthly boxes of food. There are two subscription options – you can pick either a variety of boxes from their multitude of choices to be delivered in a certain order, or you can choose from four themed box types to receive monthly shipments of that specific selection. I chose to try out the second route and ordered the first Gourmet box. They also come in Sweet, BBQ or Health. Watch for my review of the Sweet box later this week.
Taste Trunk is a bit pricey because you have to pay for all of your boxes up front, but they break down to around $33 per package, which really isn’t bad. It’s cheaper than a lot of other food boxes on the market. To make it sting a little less, I’ll be giving you a coupon code for free shipping later in this article.
The Taste Trunk box can be seen at the top of this post. It was tucked into another box for shipping and everything inside was padded. Glass items were even individually wrapped in paper, which was a nice touch.
The first items I pulled from my trunk were generous 6-ounce bottles of truffle oil and blood orange vinegar. I haven’t tried these goodies yet, but they are definitely decadent choices. I plan on making the vinegar into homemade salad dressing and can’t wait to try the oil on roasted vegetables. I’ve never had truffle oil before and really want to see what all the fuss is about.
Next in the box was an 8-ounce jar of peach and lavender jam and a box of parmesan Mediterranean veggie roaster. The jam was wonderful on waffles and pancakes. It had a juicy peach flavor with just a hint of lavender. Even my lavender hating fiancé enjoyed it. The veggie roaster was a spice blend that you mix with butter and olive oil and toss with root vegetables or squash. We tried it on potatoes and onions and it was really good. It had a garlic and herb flavor with a touch of lemon. There’s enough of it to do three pounds of vegetables.
Last in the package was a paper bag full of almond caramel chews. They had a slight burnt sugar taste that blended nicely with the nutty almond flavor. The chewiness of the caramel contrasted beautifully with the crunchy almonds.
Also included in the box are an envelope full of recipes to use everything except the caramels, which you obviously just eat. I didn’t try any of the recipes, but the Cauliflower Soup with Truffle Oil and Blood Orange Salmon look especially good. I may try them down the line.
Everything included in this package is a full-sized gourmet item, together worth more than the overall price of the box. I think it’s well worth the money if you can afford paying for all the boxes up front. To help you out a bit, use the coupon code CelebrityCafe for free shipping. Shipping normally runs between $7.99 and $14.99, so the code is certainly useful.
With four themes to choose from, you can’t go wrong. If Gourmet isn’t your thing, try one of the others, or go for the other subscription option. The BBQ boxes are a great idea for Father’s Day, or for yourself for that matter. Everything in this box so far has been delicious and I’m sure the other packages follow suit. Have fun choosing!
