The Bookish Box is a monthly subscription service for “stylish bookworms” run by Appraising Pages. Every month you get a new box full of literary inspired goodies. It’s a book-themed subscription service without the book. The box includes a T-shirt with other ever changing goodies which could include socks, bookmarks, mugs, jewelry, tote bags, notebooks and the like. The theme changes monthly. This month’s theme was “Classic Novels.”

The items were shipped in a logo box, shown above, with this month’s theme printed on the side. You know exactly what it is when the mailman drops it at your door. The inside was full of blue shredded cardboard to keep all the items safe.

The first item in the box was the T-shirt. I love getting new clothes and book themed clothes are even better. This one was based on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a favorite of mine. It reads, “Curiouser and Curiouser” with a pretty floral design beneath it. Appraising Pages offers a wide range of shirt options – men’s and women’s, plus size and add-ons like V-necks, high-low tees, raglans and tanks. Each option has a different price, but it’s wonderful to have so many choices. You don’t see that much in the subscription box world. The shirt I received was a V-neck which cost about $4 extra.

Next in the package was a pair of Alice socks! I’m so happy! I can completely deck myself out in Wonderland geek-wear! They were created by Out of Print and feature the backside of the White Rabbit. They’re a quality item, soft and comfy.

Following the clothing, I pulled out a notebook with a quote from The Great Gatsby, created by Bugaboo Bear Designs. I love the yearning and ultimate destruction in that novel and the quote they chose is beautiful. It reads, “Breathing dreams like air.” I collect notebooks like some women collect shoes. This is sure to get some use.

After the notebook, I found a ring made by A Cute Geek. You’ll see it in the picture above the notepad. It was packaged in a sealed plastic bag. It has a silver ampersand and is incredibly tiny. I think it’s a reference to Pride & Prejudice. It’s cute, but I have big fingers and I couldn’t even get it on my pinky. It will be going to my niece who is also a reader and a writer. She’s a beanpole and she has a birthday coming up.

Lastly, I almost overlooked a magnetic bookmark which had sunk underneath the packing material. It’s green with a quote from Persuasion. It reads, “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.” Gorgeous. I haven’t read the book, but now I’m thinking that I need to. I can always use more bookmarks as I’m a heavy reader, so this is a keeper.

The Bookish Box starts around the $35 mark with optional T-shirt add-ons extra. They also offer a box without a tee for less money for people who just want the other goodies. That box is a monthly subscription as well. The monthly surprise is fun and makes a great gift for book lovers. They’ll squeal with delight when it arrives in their mailbox.

Boxes usually sell out halfway through the month, but sales open up again on the first of each month. Order your August box starting Friday, July 1, here. You won’t be sorry.
