While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows held the top spot at the box office last week, it couldn't maintain it against three new releases this week. TMNT 2 dropped to fourth place behind the new arrivals. The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist won the weekend by grossing $40.4 million. It nearly matched the opening of the first film back in 2013.
Second place belonged to Warcraft, the highly anticipated film based on the popular online multiplayer game which brought in $24.4 million. I expect this film to have a successful box office run.
Now You See Me 2 took third place with an opening gross of $23 million. This was slightly under the $29.3 million record by the original back in 2013 according to Box Office Mojo.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows grossed $14.8 million in fourth place. X-Men: Apocalypse recorded a soft $10 million, raising its total domestic gross to $136.3 million. The Angry Birds Movie is closing in on $100 million domestically while Captain America: Civil War added $4.3 million as it approaches the $400 million domestically after being in theaters for 38 days.
