JetBlue made arrangements for grieving families of the Orlando shooting victims to travel to their funerals for free.
On June 14, one grieving grandmother got more than she expected from the entire crew and passengers on the plane. They all comforted her as she made the journey for her grandson’s funeral.
Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo, who also went as Omar by his loved ones, passed away at 20 years old. Kelly Karas wrote in a Facebook post about the decision she made with a fellow attendant to have passengers write messages of condolences.
Both Karas and Melinda Winstead started from different sections of the plane when Karas got a call from Winstead saying that she needed more paper. Passengers wrote entire paragraphs filled with support and condolences. By the time they handed the woman the letters of condolences, some had also given her donations.
The flight had a moment of silence and as the passengers deplaned, everyone greeted the grandmother to give her their condolences personally. Read Karas’ entire account below.
Since the tragic shooting, other condolences have been given from people and celebrities, including Lady Gaga and Adele.
