Helen Mirren has confirmed that she has a role in the eighth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise.
When asked how her latest movie, Eye in the Sky, fits in with what she wants to do as an actress, Mirren said to Elle, "[Eye in the Sky] fits in very, very well with what I want to be doing. I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant. I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that's for the fun of it. So maybe that's what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies."
The reporter then asked if Mirren is confirmed for the role, to which she replied, "Yes, I am."
All Mirren said about the role was that she asked to be behind the wheel.
"I've always rather loved driving," Mirren said, "I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive if I do drive in it.' But we'll see. We'll see how it transpires."
Mirren joins an ensemble cast that includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Lucas Black, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron.
Fast 8 is filming now for an April 17 release. Videos have been released from the set and we recently got the first image of Theron's character.
