Don’t expect the USS Enterprise to dock anytime soon as Paramount Pictures has announced the fourth installment of the Star Trek film franchise.
On Monday, the studio announced its plans and the return of Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, who died in the beginning of the franchise launcher, Star Trek.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie will be trekking back to the future. Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) will “cross paths with a man he never had the chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.”
The announcement could not have come at a more opportune time since the third installment of the film, Star Trek: Beyond hits theaters this Friday.
The series has proven to be a blockbuster success, Variety reported. Star Trek accumulated $380 million worldwide in 2009. The sequel raked in $460 million.
The screenplay will be written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber are to produce through Bad Robot. Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg will serve as executive producers.
