Finding Dory has been dominating the box office since its release and the holiday weekend was no exception. The film retained the top spot at the box office by grossing $50.2 over the weekend raising its total domestic gross to $381 million. It is now closing in on passing its predecessor Finding Nemo.

Second place went to The Legend of Tarzan which swung its way to a $45.5 million opening. This was much better than expected as was third place which went to The Purge: Election Year. The third film in the series grossed $34.7 million, which was slightly better than The Purge: Anarchy back in 2014 reports Box Office Mojo.

Fourth place went to the animated film The BFG which couldn’t get a good audience and brought in $19.6 million. Fifth place went to Independence Day: Resurgence which saw a massive 60 percent drop during its second weekend and brought in $16.5 million. I still believe this film is going to come in just above $100 million domestically.

Central Intelligence is closing in on $100 million domestically while it appears that Finding Dory will soon pass Captain America: Civil War for the current highest grossing movie of 2016.
