Animated movies have been holding down the top spot at the box office for the past five weeks and this weekend was no different. The Secret Life of Pets retained first place this weekend by bringing in an impressive second weekend gross of $50.6 million and raising its total domestic gross to over $203 million after just ten days.

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters opened with a modest $46 million opening. I think this film will eclipse $100 million domestically and my bold prediction is that it might take $150 million domestically. The Legend of Tarzan took third place as it continues to have a steady audience. It passed $100 million domestically this weekend according to Box Office Mojo.

Finding Dory was in fourth place with $11 million raising its total domestic gross to $445.5 million. This makes it the highest grossing animated release of all-time. I’m not sure any other film of 2016 will be able to pass it for the top spot. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates rounds out the top five with $7.5 million.

The other new wide release The Infiltrator brought in a quiet $6.7 million. The Purge: Election Year goes past $70 million and Independence Day: Resurgence is struggling to reach $100 million but I predict that will happen next week.
