Women play a big part in this week’s new films, headlining many of the latest releases. One is a female-led comedy showing the humor in motherhood while others focus on the bond of sisterhood. The other big release this week, however, brings Bourne back to the big screen.
Top CIA agent Jason Bourne comes out of hiding in the latest installment in the Bourne series, Jason Bourne. Finally able to remember what has happened to him, Bourne is now on a dangerous mission to seek revenge on those that wronged him. Matt Damon stars in the PG-13 action film alongside Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel and Alicia Vikander. The adventure runs for two hours and three minutes.
Three women struggle with trying to be the “perfect mom” in Bad Moms. They form a group that takes a stand against the parental norms and face off against the mean moms of their kids’ school. The one hour and forty-one minute comedy is created by the men behind the hit comedy film series, The Hangover. The film stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Christina Applegate, Jada Pinkett Smith, Annie Mumolo and Jay Hernandez. It’s rated R for sex, nudity, language, drugs and alcohol.
A daring social media game brings two people together in Nerve. By choosing to accept the challenges, the two find themselves in dangerous situations, putting their futures on the line. The PG-13 suspense film stars Emma Roberts and Dave Franco. The thriller runs for one hour and thirty-six minutes.
A family faces uncertainty during a wide spread blackout in Into the Forest. When hardship hits, two sisters must come together in order to stay alive in the secluded area they call home, while danger lurks just outside. The one hour and forty-one minute sci-fi drama is based on Jean Hegland’s novel of the same name. The limited released film stars Ellen Page, Evan Rachel Wood and Max Minghella. It’s rated R for violence, language, sex and nudity.
Former New Orleans Saints defensive back Steve Gleason shares his struggles with ALS in the documentary Gleason. The star NFL football player was diagnosed with the debilitating disease shortly before finding out his wife was pregnant with their first child. Upon hearing the news, Gleason started a video diary to later share with his son. This limited released film runs for one hour and fifty-one minutes. It’s rated R for language.
An extremely bright young man leaves his New Jersey home for a conservative college in Ohio in Indignation. The smart student struggles with life at the academic institution. He wrestles with the traditional values of his new school and falls for a mentally unstable young woman, all while those around him head off to serve in the Korean War. The one hour and fifty minute drama is based on Philip Roth’s novel. The limited released film is rated R for sex and language.
Women are at the forefront of Wall Street in Equity. The one hour and forty minute drama shows the juggling act a high powered businesswoman has to play in order to remain on par with the men in the industry. The limited released drama is rated R for language.
A parasitic virus called worm flu is rapidly spreading across the country in Viral. The sickness possesses the bodies of those who come in contact with it and torments others. In the one hour and twenty-nine minute horror film, two sisters lock themselves in their home in an attempt to protect themselves from the deadly illness. The thriller is available in limited theaters.
There’s another highly anticipated action packed film like Jason Bourne hitting theaters next week. The star-studded super villain film Suicide Squad joins the fight on the big screen Aug. 5.
