Those young and old looking for adventure have something new to see at movie theaters this weekend as two popular film series release new installments. Comedic actor and screenwriter Simon Pegg has a major role in both, an animated film set in the past and a futuristic intergalactic voyage.

The USS Enterprise ventures deep into space in the latest installment of the Star Trek series, Star Trek Beyond.  During their trip, the crew is confronted with dangerous extraterrestrials that put their lives and principles at risk.  The PG-13 sci-fi adventure stars Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood and Simon Pegg, who also co-wrote the film. The action flick is running in conventional and IMAX theaters for two hours and two minutes.

The threat of extinction is looming in Ice Age: Collison Course.  When an accidental acorn incident endangers the earth and its dwellers. Sid, Manny, Diego and the rest of the gang go on a mission to try and protect their land.  The PG animated adventure features the voices of Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott,  Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Wanda Sykes, Jennifer Lopez,  Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Melissa Rauch and Michael Strahan.  The film plays for one hour and thirty-four minutes.

When the lights are off, a creepy woman haunts a brother and sister in Lights Out.  The sinister figure has a connection to the family and preys on people’s fear of darkness.  The PG-13 horror film runs for one hour and twenty-one minutes.

More adventures continue next week as the latest installment in the Bourne series, Jason Bourne, enters theaters and the comedic escapades of Bad Moms can also be seen starting July 29.
