This week’s new releases have familiar characters along with big name casts. They include the stories behind a history-making president and a legendary boxer, as well as a new horror film that will make people want to keep their mouths shut. Combined with films starring Jason Statham, Jessica Alba, Anna Kendrick and Margo Martindale these trailers make for a long must-watch list.
Three friends in search of some cash attempt to rob a rich blind man in Don't Breathe. The visually impaired man appears to be an easy target, but he’s anything but the vulnerable mark. Sensing the danger, he responds lethally and traps the thieves inside his home. The horror film runs for one hour and twenty-eight minutes. The thriller is rated R for terror, violence, language and sex.
The story behind Panamanian boxer Roberto Duran is showcased in Hands of Stone. The legendary athlete’s professional boxing career began at the age of 16 and spanned three decades. With the help of his trainer Ray Arcel, Duran nabbed championship titles in multiple weight divisions, including a win against Sugar Ray Leonard. Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, Usher Raymond, John Turturro, Ana de Armas and Ellen Barkin star in the biopic. The one hour and forty-five minute drama is rated R for language and nudity.
Arthur Bishop is back to his old tricks again in Mechanic: Resurrection. When his girlfriend is kidnapped, the deadly assassin is forced to return to his old profession and murder some of the planet’s most dangerous people to get her back. The one hour and thirty-nine minute action film stars Jason Statham, Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh. The thriller is rated R for violence and language.
When his mother falls ill, a man returns to his hometown to help take care of her in The Hollars. Back where he grew up, he finds himself entangled in the relationships he left behind while still dealing with his current personal and professional struggles. John Krasinski directed and stars in the dramatic comedy alongside Anna Kendrick, Margo Martindale, Richard Jenkins, Sharlto Copley, Charlie Day, Josh Groban and Randall Park. The PG-13 film is playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-five minutes.
The beginning of the love story between President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle is told in Southside with You. The one hour and twenty-one minute biopic is set in the summer of 1989 as the two go out on their first date and share their first kiss. John Legend is the executive producer of the PG-13 romantic drama. The film is playing in limited theaters.
While this week’s thriller advises “Don’t Breathe,” next week’s horror film Morgan warns “Don’t Let It Out.” On September 2, Jamie Dornan’s new mystery thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax also enters theaters.
