Suicide Squad was one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the summer and the latest installment from DC Comics dominated the box office by grossing $135.1 million. It crushed the August opening weekend record which was previously $94.3 million from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
I think Suicide Squad will see a significant second weekend drop, very similar to Batman v. Superman. My early prediction is that Suicide Squad will gross more than Batman v. Superman domestically. Second place this week went to Jason Bourne which brought in $22.7 million and pushed its domestic gross over $100 million reports Box Office Mojo.
Bad Moms took third place and continues a surprising box office run with $14.2 million on its second weekend. The Secret Life of Pets took fourth place with $11.6 million and is closing in on $320 million domestically. Star Trek Beyond rounds out the top five with $10.2 million.
The other new wide release of the week Nine Lives struggled to find an audience after debuting in sixth place with $6.5 million. I feel this film drops out of the top 10 next weekend.
