The Family Movie Club is a new subscription service that caters to families with children and the young at heart. They mail out everything you need for a family movie night including a 1980’s or ‘90’s children’s movie on DVD, popcorn, candy and a fun surprise to play with. I ordered their latest box to get a good idea of what you can expect from this service.

The package came in the box you see above this article. It was bright red with a print out of the name of the club stuck on top. Inside everything was packed in glittery tissue paper to keep it safe. Please excuse the torn mailing label. I couldn’t get the label off, so I ended up blacking out my address. Normally services place their logo on the opposite side of the box from the shipping label, but that’s not a huge deal. Just a pain for photo purposes.

The first two items I pulled from the box were candy. There was a bag of man-shaped marshmallows, giving us our first hint to the theme of this package. There was also neon green rock candy on a stick. My fiancé and I couldn’t wait and tried the marshmallows right away. Very soft and tasty. I have yet to try the rock candy, but it looks delicious.

Next in the package are the movie itself and the fun surprise toys. The movie this month is Ghostbusters 2 from 1989. The DVD had a coupon attached for $5 off a ticket to the new Ghostbuster’s movie which was a nice touch. It expires at the end of August.

The toys included fit the Ghostbusters theme too. One is a can of bright green silly string and the other is a tub of glow-in-the-dark slime. The silly string is an ode to Slimer, and the slime represents both him and ectoplasm.

Lastly, we have the popcorn and four fun popcorn bags to eat it from. The popcorn is Act II Butter Lover’s microwave popcorn. Always yummy. The bags are red and white paper and a great size for kids. I’m saving them for when my nieces or nephew come over for their next sleepover. Mike and I just ate our popcorn directly from the microwave bag.

In order to keep costs down, this company only ships out DVDs, not Blu-rays. The cost for the basic box is $24.95 per month plus shipping. If you prepay for 3, 6 or 12 months, it works out a bit cheaper. There are other options available too. If you have two kids who don’t like to share, you can get the upgraded family movie box for $4 more that has two of each toy included. One movie night per month not enough for you? You can order the twice a month movie box for $49.90 monthly. Want two movie nights with two kids’ worth of toys? Upgrade for $8 more.

This subscription is a great idea. Kids will love opening the box with their parents to find their surprises. Parents will love having a monthly movie night to gather the family together for fun. If you’re like me and kid-free, all you need is a love for ‘80’s and ‘90’s family films and a young heart to enjoy the toys. Or you can pass the toys along to kids in your life. I thoroughly enjoyed this box. You can try it out by clicking here.
