The Ann Wilson Thing! released EP #2 Focus this summer. With power, skill and soul these musicians demonstrate what truly seasoned classic rock sounds like.
The Ann Wilson Thing! is entirely comprised of rock veterans. Wilson herself has commanded the mic for decades. While best known for her leading vocals with Heart – who, incidentally, also released an album this July – this singer lent her voice to many bands over her career. Years of experience and life lived come through in each track Wilson records.
Wilson is not alone in depth of experience. Four additional musicians add talents to The Ann Wilson Thing! – Each of which are highly sought after, with impressive biographies. Listeners who enjoy tones of early ‘70s rock will especially enjoy Focus, an album full of technical and emotional experience.
"Manic Depression" kicks off this four-track EP with a strong classic rock vibe. Leading with sounds that would be at home opening for Janis Joplin or Led Zeppelin circa 1969, this edgy yet polished track is served well by its live recording. Wilson and the band emit palpable energy throughout.
While retaining vocal strength from track one, tempo slows in "Fighten Fer Life." In this relatively sparse track, strings softly and skillfully shine through. Next, "Don’t Give Up" delivers an honest performance. During this somewhat emotional song, The Ann Wilson Thing! members showcase their soul in both vocals and instrumentation.
The Ann Wilson Thing! comes full circle by closing Focus with "Anguish." Returning to an edgier feel, the final track features a southern rock twang and heavier rhythms. Evoking images of Harleys riding at sundown, "Anguish" sends listeners down the dusty trail satisfied.
Focus represents keys, drums, strings and vocals all in a beautifully seasoned classic rock tapestry by The Ann Wilson Thing!
