Tom Hanks plunges a damaged plane into the Hudson River to save 155 passengers in the trailer for Clint Eastwood's Sully.

The film tells the true story of an airline pilot (Hanks) who successfully navigated a plane with two broken engines into the Hudson River. He saved the lives of every passenger and crew member on board, but was investigated if that was the proper action to take. The actual events occurred in 2009.

Eastwood directs from a script by Elf producer Todd Komarnicki. Hanks stars with The Dark Knight's Aaron Eckhart, The Big C's Laura Linney and Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn.

The movie is one of the first narrative features to be almost entirely filmed with IMAX cameras. Avengers: Infinity War will be the first movie entirely shot in the format, but that won't be released until 2018. The hanger fight in Captain America: Civil War was filmed with the cameras. Seeing the film in IMAX theaters expanded the aspect ratio, making for a larger picture. Because of the larger film frame, the resolution is also drastically improved for a clearer picture.

Eastwood recently directed American Sniper and Jersey Boys. Hanks was seen in A Hologram for the King and Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies. He reprises his role from The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons in Inferno, which comes out on Oct 28.

Sully is set for release on Sept. 9.
