Sully had no problem holding down the top spot at the box office. The film only saw a 37 percent drop during its second weekend and brought in $22 million pushing its total domestic gross to over $70 million. This film is already generating early Oscar buzz and I expect its box office success to continue.

Second, third and fourth place went to three of the four new releases of the week. Blair Witch came in second with $9.7 million. Third place went to Bridget Jones’s Baby with $8.2 million. Fourth place went to Snowden with $8 million. These new releases all had very soft openings and it appears they will struggle to find any kind of audience Box Office Mojo notes.

Suicide Squad drops to No. 7 with $4.7 million and now has pushed its domestic gross to over $313 million after 45 days. The other new release of the week, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise came in 13th place with $1.3 million. Bad Moms has hit $110 million after 52 days and Jason Bourne has passed $160 million domestically after 52 days. It is now the third highest-grossing film in the Bourne franchise.

Sully will try to stay No. 1 for the third straight week but should get some good competition from the upcoming western film, The Magnificent Seven starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.
