Singer and Girl Meets World star, Sabrina Carpenter released her sophomore album EVOLution on Oct. 14. Prior to its release, Carpenter teased snippets of EVOLution on social media encouraging fans to pre-order the album and instantly receive four tracks.
The album, which features 10 tracks total, showcases Carpenter’s growth as both a songwriter and a vocalist. EVOLution has an edgier, more mature feel than Carpenter’s debut album, Eyes Wide Open, which is palpable on songs like, “Run and Hide,” “Feels Like Loneliness,” “Thumbs,” and the hit single, “On Purpose.”
While Carpenter uses more pop and synth sounds on EVOLution, her lyrics are even sharper and more emotional than those of Eyes Wide Open. EVOLution’s “Run and Hide” sounds like a follow-up to Eyes Wide Open’s “Too Young.” Carpenter has rejected the idea that she is “too young to fall in love,” now deciding that she is ready for it. Also a standout is “Shadows.” Sings Carpenter, “I, I need you to understand/I don’t mind your shadows/’Cause they disappear in the light/I don’t mind your shadows/’Cause they look a lot like mine.”
Overall, Carpenter succeeds as an artist on EVOLution, and proves that she’s not just another Disney darling transitioning through her teenage years.
Carpenter recently announced plans for an EVOLution tour which is set to kick off on Oct. 18 in Nashville.
