The Magnificent Seven only enjoyed the top spot at the box office for one week as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children brought in $28.5 million to take the number one spot. The film has received excellent reviews and I’m predicting it grosses around $80-85 million domestically.
Deepwater Horizon took second place during its opening weekend with a modest $20.6 million. This film also got positive reviews and I predict this film will finish around $75-80 million domestically. The Magnificent Seven took a 55% drop during its second weekend grossing $15.7 million and pushed its total domestic gross over $60 million reports Box Office Mojo.
Storks took a 35% drop during its second weekend and came in fourth place with $13.8 million. Sully rounds out the top five with $8.4 million and has pushed its domestic gross over $100 million after 24 days. Masterminds had a very soft opening finishing in sixth place with $6.6 million.
It should be an open race to the top spot at the box office next week as three new films are being released. The Birth of a Nation is generating some early Oscar buzz so that is my prediction for the top spot next week.
