The films entering theaters this weekend focus on history and the arts. The newest releases put a spotlight on the rock band The Stooges and the literary work, Dante’s Inferno. After Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, Robert Langdon attempts to solve another mystery involving history.

Professor and symbologist Robert Langdon finds himself in an Italian hospital suffering from amnesia in the latest film of the Dan Brown novels turned film series, Inferno. With the help of a doctor, Langdon sets out to regain his lost memories. All the while, the two go on a mission to stop a psychopath from spreading a deadly virus, tracing clues to Dante’s Inferno. The world’s fate lies in the hands of Langdon, the only person with the ability to identify the evidence. Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones star in the Ron Howard directed PG-13 dramatic thriller. The crime film runs for two hours and one minute.

Get an inside look at 1960’s rock band The Stooges through the words of the bandmates themselves in Gimme Danger. Lead by Jim Osterberg, a.k.a. Iggy Pop, the Ann Arbor, Michigan based band found fame by mixing genres to create their own sound. Now they’re regarded as one of the best rock-n-roll bands of all time. The one hour and forty-eight minute documentary takes viewers through a timeline of the band with concert footage and interviews.  The film is rated R for drugs and language.  It’s currently available in limited theaters but expands to wider release on Nov. 4.

Even though there aren’t many new options in theaters this weekend, it’s a big week at the movies next week as some of the most highly-anticipated films this season head to the big screen. They include the animated comedy Trolls, the sci-fi thriller Doctor Strange and Mel Gibson’s dramatic action film Hacksaw Ridge all making their debut on Nov. 4.
