Ed Sheeran's face was reportedly cut after what was supposed to be a joke involving a sword, James Blunt and Princess Beatrice during a dinner party they attended at the home to the Duke of York.
The incident occurred when Blunt asked his royal friend, Beatrice, who is the second female in line to succeed the crown from her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to "knight" him. Beatrice reportedly lifted the ceremonial sword, with the intention of knighting the pop star and inadvertently cut Sheeran in the face. The blade slashed a two-inch vertical gash underneath his right eye.
The British singer and songwriter had to have stitches after the accident. Sheeran has yet to confirm any reports and Buckingham Palace would not comment, however, Sheeran has since posed with fans in photographs, which were uploaded to Twitter and in those pics he does appear to have a cut under his eye.
According to National Post, the Princess was said to be “inconsolable” after the accident but Sheeran felt well enough to return to the party after having the wound stitched.
The dinner party had about 20 guests total and included Sheeran's girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn.
