HorrorPack is a subscription service that caters to horror movie buffs. They send out monthly boxes with four horror movies of your choice on Blu-ray or DVD. Each format sends different films, so if you order both you’ll end up with eight separate movies. I tried out their October pack of Blu-rays and was pleased with what I found.

HorrorPack ships in a plain brown box with their name on the return address. What they don’t spend on fancy packaging is passed on to you in savings, so that’s perfectly fine.

Inside the box the movies are packed in a bubble mailer to keep them intact. A little more padding around the mailer would have been nice though because one of my movie cases arrived cracked. However, once notified, HorrorPack was quick to mail out a new case and paper wrap to replace the damaged one. I get the idea that broken cases are not the norm, but it’s great that they have a strategy in case things go wrong.

The first two movies in my package were independent films. HorrorPack makes a point of putting at least one independent movie in each box. Late Night Double Feature is a HorrorPack Limited Edition film. It’s full of cannibals, self-mutilation and bloody revenge. I don’t do cannibals or self-mutilation so that movie was passed onto my brother who loves that stuff. He was thrilled.

Dolly Deadly is a film written and directed by Heidi Moore and it came autographed by her. HorrorPack is known for sending out autographed movies. In this one, a young boy has a psychotic break and kills off his bullies dressed as one of the dolls he loves. It’s described as having ‘80s-style special effects and looks intriguing.

The last two movies in the box are Hollywood hits. The Purge is the initial film and it came with not only the Blu-ray but a DVD and digital copy as well. It’s a good, creepy flick. The other movie was the original Children of the Corn from 1984. It’s classic Stephen King and one of my favorites.

I was happy with my box from HorrorPack. I didn’t already own the movies they sent and they really mailed a variety of types to fit horror lovers of different comfort zones. Everyone who received the pack is bound to find something that they will enjoy. Also, the autographed film is a great touch.

If you love horror, this subscription is hard to beat. Four Blu-ray movies for $24.99 or DVDs for $19.99, and shipping is always free to the U.S. You won’t find these movies in the bargain bin or streaming on Netflix either. They’re a great way to add to your home collection and would make the perfect gift for the horror fan in your life.
