Los Angeles folk/pop trio The Furious Seasons released their latest album, entitled, look west.

The album concept came out of months of playing 3 piece shows in Southern California, including shows in support of John Hiatt, David Lindley and A.J. Croce.  Scott Campbell recorded some of the tracks live in a home studio in Hollywood set up for Shelby Lynne to record.  Tim Boland at White Light Studios in North Hollywood recorded a majority of these songs.

Consisting of brothers, David Steinhart (acoustic guitar, lead vocal) and Jeff Steinhart (standup bass) and Paul Nelson (acoustic lead guitar, backup vocals), highlights a warm and personal set accompanied by Nelson’s expert guitar playing.

The album opens up with the track, “Longshot,” which is blanketed with a sleepy and opaque sound.  The warm, glimmering moments glimpse into the eternal as this quiet and resounding song resonates with a welcoming light.  There is something ethereal about this track as it takes a look into the ephemeral as well.

“A Thing To Behold” has exquisite storytelling and as you acquaint yourself to these songs they grow more and more solid.  There are notes full of fulfilling cadences and painstaking details.  The golden sounds coming from the strumming from the acoustic guitar clangs and jingles with a clear resolve.  These personal sets are warm and filled with resilience.

“What’s Coming Next” is a candid approach to vocalizing the rich scenes that passes us by.  This is sophisticated folk potent with pop sensibilities.  The weary response to the world broaches these as gracious songs.

A lot of the lyrics on look west follows the course of how a relationship works out.  Some takes us on to adulthood and marriage, others look onto a less weathered trajectory and toward a tumultuous forecast.

On “My Terrible Song,” Steinhart shows he has a penchant for melodies as he sings with verbose foreboding about wanting something so badly you lose track of what’s important on hindsight.

Toward “Summer Flame,” we are shown something fleeting as Steinhart sings about opportunities missed.  The track will send listeners adrift as the momentous moment happens to be about the whims and wishes of someone in slumber.

On “Sadly Matched,” the song switches to a lighter mood as Steinhart vocalizes about a man who loves Los Angeles so much he’s willing to trade his dream girl rather than move away from the city.
