This week’s new releases consist of thrillers, dramas and comedies. Big named celebs head many of the films entering theaters this Thanksgiving weekend. Just in time for the family friendly holiday, an all new Disney animated adventure hits the big screen.
When her home is threatened, a teenager sets out to keep her island and its people safe in Moana. With the help of a demi-god named Maui, the young girl learns the skills of her ancestors as they set sail across Ocean, battling monsters that cross their path. The PG animated film features the voices of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger. The Disney adventure is playing in conventional and 3D theaters for one hour and fifty-three minutes.
A couple’s relationship is formed and tested during war in Allied. In the two hour and four minute dramatic action film, an intelligence officer is told that his wife may be a spy. If it turns out that she does work for the enemy, he is told he must kill her or face death himself. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard star in the thriller alongside Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Goode. The film is rated R for violence, sex, nudity, language and drugs.
Billy Bob Thornton dons the red suit and hat once again in Bad Santa 2. This time around, Willie Soke and Marcus attempt to steal from a charity on Christmas Eve. The one hour and twenty-seven minute comedy costars Tony Cox, Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks. It’s rated R for sex, language and nudity.
A young, religious, wannabe actress gets the amazing opportunity to work with Howard Hughes in Rules Don't Apply. As part of her contract with the renowned movie maker, she gets her own driver. The two fall for one another. Their forbidden relationship challenges their deep religious beliefs and the guidelines set forth by their famous employer. The PG-13 romantic drama features the star-studded cast of Warren Beatty, Lily Collins, Alden Ehrenreich, Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening, Haley Bennett, Candice Bergen, Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, Steve Coogan, Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris, Megan Hilty, Oliver Platt and Martin Sheen. The film plays for two hours and seven minutes.
An adopted man attempts to find his biological family in India in Lion. At the age of five, young Saroo finds himself on a train, separated from his family. After struggling to survive in a new city without his loved ones, he is adopted by an Australian couple. Years later, despite living well with his new adopted parents, he has a strong desire to find the family he lost. The PG-13 drama is based on real events. The two hour and one minute limited released film enters theaters on Friday. It stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman.
A successful Washington D.C. lobbyist gets the challenge of her life in Miss Sloane. Her drive to win has served her well in all of her cases, but her toughest opponent makes her question how hard she’ll play and what risks she’s willing to take. The dramatic thriller stars Jessica Chastain, Sam Waterston and John Lithgow. The two hour and twelve minute film is playing in limited theaters starting on Friday. It’s rated R for language and sex.
Another film based on real events, Natalie Portman’s Jackie Kennedy biopic Jackie hits theaters next week. Other films entering theaters on December 2 include Shia LaBeouf’s thriller Man Down and the horror film The Eyes of My Mother.
