The parents and brother of former Voice contestant Christina Grimmie have filed a lawsuit against the concert venue where she was killed last June.
Billboard noted that the family filed the suit on Tuesday, Dec. 20, against AEG Live and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, which owns the venue where the singer was fatally shot by an obsessed fan. The suit alleges wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress caused by her shooting and claims that security personnel at the arena did not do enough to ensure her safety.
The suit claims that "superficial bag checks" were done, but there were no metal detectors or pat downs being conducted on those entering the venue. The man who killed Grimmie got into the facility with two firearms and a knife.
As we reported, the 22-year-old was signing autographs after a June 10 concert when a deranged fan named Kevin Loibl walked up to her and shot her three times. Grimmie's brother, Marcus, tackled Loibl, who then shot himself. Christina was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died of her injuries.
