Dolly Parton has invited her friends, Reba McEntire and Kenny Rogers, to partake in a telethon for Tennessee wildfire victims on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
The three-hour telethon called Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund, will broadcast live at 8 p.m.
Parton established the Dollywood Foundation My People Fund to raise money for the 14 victims who died in the wildfire in East Tennessee.
The country singer grew up in Sevier County, Tennessee.
“My home in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee is some place special. Wildfires have affected many of the people—my people—who live in those beautiful mountains.” Parton said. “We want to provide a hand up to those families who have lost everything in the fires. I know it has been a trying time for my people and this assistance will help get them back on their feet.”
Parton told Inside Edition, “I am praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard.”
The singer, who created Dollywood, counts it a blessing that her theme park has been spared.
The fund provides $1,000 per month for families in Sevier County, who cannot live in their homes because of the wildfires.
Eligible home owners or renters can apply with a pre-application on dollywoodfoundation.org. The telethon will provide the 1-866-CARE MORE number for donations to the fund. Contributions are also accepted by mail to this address: My People Fund, c/o Dollywood Foundation, 111 Dollywood Lane, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863.
