A member of the Kennedy family and ex-boyfriend of Taylor Swift, John Conor Kennedy, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 29, at a nightclub in Aspen, Colorado.
Authorities said that they were responding to a call about someone refusing to leave the bar and that's when they saw the 22-year-old and another male "rolling around on the ground" and witnessed Kennedy punching the other man.
The Aspen Times reported that Kennedy's father, Robert Kennedy Jr., said his son got into the fight because he was sticking up for a friend who is gay.
“Conor has always reacted against bullying,” Robert said. “I’m happy he stood up for his friend.”
According to the publication, John Conor, who goes by just Conor, got into the altercation after a group yelled a homophobic slur and he asked them to apologize. One person in the group did apologize but as they were leaving used the slur again and that is when the fight broke out.
Kennedy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22.
ET noted that Kennedy, who dated Taylor Swift in 2012, was arrested before during a protest in 2013.
