Moana continues to hold the top spot at the box office. The film brought in $18.8 million during its third weekend as box office champion, pushing its total domestic gross to $145 million. Moana has the 15th highest domestic gross of 2016 currently and looks to move up a few spots in the coming weeks.
Second place went to the new wide release Office Christmas Party. The holiday comedy brought in $17.5 million. It had similar openings to other 2016 R-rated comedies including Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and How to be Single. This film will probably finish around $45-50 million domestically reports Box Office Mojo.
Fantastic Beasts fell to third place with $10.8 million, pushing its total domestic gross to just under $200 million after 24 days. Arrival comes in fourth place with $5.6 million and is looking to try and reach $100 million domestically. Doctor Strange rounds out the top five with $4.6 million and has now grossed $222.4 million domestically.
The other two releases of the week were limited release that expanded to wide release. Manchester by the Sea, which is gaining some early awards season buzz came in eight place with $3.2 million and has now grossed $8.3 million domestically. Miss Sloane finished just outside the top ten at eleventh place with a weak $1.9 million.
Disney has been number one at the box office for the past three weeks and that looks to continue with the very highly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being released this Friday.
