On Dec. 2, LUCA released his debut single entitled “Getting Over You.” The California native grew up in Ojai. Presently residing in Los Angeles, LUCA’s self-professed influences range from Prince to Jeff Buckley. His sound on “Getting Over You” is a combination of pop-rock vocal inclinations with a weighted groove to the instrumentation.
“Getting Over You” opens with LUCA’s voice alone. His talking-on-pitch delivery is direct, without excessive manipulation. There is a sparse but funk-infused sense to the first part of this track – with deep and borderline intimate singing. As the track continues, it transitions into a Maroon 5-style rock vibe, while stopping off occasionally at Justin Timberlake-esque vocals. Throughout, LUCA maintains a smooth synth bent. This combination of tones weaves together well, creating one seamless tapestry.
Dips and curves in the “Getting Over You” arrangement work well. However, it feels as though the song never quite comes to fruition. It is almost as though LUCA did not push his inclinations quite far enough, causing “Getting Over You” to feel slightly restrained.
Overall though, this is a strong track from LUCA. He is sure to capture audience attention here, leaving listeners interested in the next project from this artist.
