Peter Vaughan, the actor best known for his portrayal of Maester Aemon in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has passed away at 93.
Before venturing into acting, Vaughan, who was born Peter Olm, served in World War II in Normandy and Belgium, according to Variety. In 1954, he started his acting career with various roles in British television shows. According to BBC, he garnered much audience attention from these TV roles, especially his role as Harry “Grouty” Grout in Porridge. He also starred in Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2015.
Outside of television, Vaughan also made an impact in movies as well. He starred in Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits and Brazil. In addition, he also starred in The Crucible in 1996.
