Uber is in some hot water after a lawsuit was filed alleging that company employees spied on Beyoncé and other high-profile celebs.
The Guardian reported that Uber's former forensic investigator Samuel Ward Spangenberg, is suing the company claiming that he was fired for pointing out security issues.
Spangenberg made these claims in a court declaration in October and alleged that employees for the ridesharing service abused the company’s “God view” tool to spy on and track the movements of “high-profile politicians, celebrities and even personal acquaintances of Uber employees, including ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, and ex-spouses.” Spangenberg named Beyoncé’s as one of the celebrities whose account was allegedly monitored.
The former employee also accused Uber of age discrimination and addressed several other security concerns in his suit.
Uber has released a statement regarding the allegations saying that it “continues to increase our security investments and many of these efforts, like our multi-factor authentication checks and bug bounty program, have been widely reported. We have hundreds of security and privacy experts working around the clock to protect our data. This includes enforcing to authorized employees solely for purposes of their job responsibilities, and all potential violations are quickly and thoroughly investigated.”
