Singer Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that she has been asked to sing at Donald Trump's upcoming inauguration and will perform if one demand is met.
The British artist took to Twitter on Monday, Jan. 2, to share that she was in fact asked and would only perform if she is allowed to sing an anti-lynching anthem titled "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday.
"Inauguration ceremony," Ferguson tweeted with a link revealing her answer in a lengthy post.
"If you allow me to sing 'strange fruit' a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial. A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation," the 30-year-old wrote
So far there is no word if Trump's team has accepted that condition.
The president elect's people have been unable to lockdown A-listers to sing at the ceremony. As we reported, Jackie Evancho, who was a finalist on America's Got Talent in 2010, is the only artist confirmed to perform in Washington D.C. on Jan. 20.
